What this covers: What your screen does when the internet drops, and how to get a player back online. The player stores your content on the device itself, so a lost connection doesn't mean a blank screen.
Before you start: None.
The short version: your screen keeps playing
The player only needs the internet to receive changes. It downloads your assigned content and stores it locally on the device — that's what makes offline playback possible. If the connection drops:
- The screen keeps playing its current campaign, uninterrupted.
- Any changes you make in the app while it's offline queue up and apply automatically when the player reconnects — you don't need to redo anything.
Storage is finite: the DMP5 ships with 32 GB by default (more is available on request). You can see the remaining space anytime under the player's Diagnostics tab as Free space (see Player diagnostics & storage) — if a large content library is running it low, contact support about a higher-capacity player.
How to tell a player is offline
Open Players in the left sidebar. Each row starts with a status dot — green when connected, gray when offline — with a Last Seen column showing when it last checked in (see Checking player status).
Getting it back online
- Check the simple things first: is the player powered (lights on, front display showing the time)? Is the Ethernet cable seated, or is the WiFi network up?
- If your WiFi changed (new router, new password), redo the WiFi setup — see How to set up your internet connection.
- If the front display reads "BOOT", the player hasn't started correctly — contact Screenfluence immediately at 1-844-772-7336.
- Once it reconnects, the player syncs on its own — the status dot turns green and any queued changes flow down.
Tips & good to know
- A quick glance at the dashboard's Player Fleet panel (its Offline count) tells you if any screens need attention (see Your dashboard).
- Planned internet outage? No action needed — screens carry on and catch up afterwards.
Troubleshooting
- Back online but content looks old: give it time to download larger files (videos take longest), then check the player's Diagnostics tab (see Player diagnostics & storage).
- The player won't reconnect after your network changed: the player remembers its old network — redo the WiFi setup with the keyboard, or move it to Ethernet.
