How to set up your internet connection

What this covers: Getting your media player online — by Ethernet cable or WiFi. The media player is the Screenfluence device plugged into your TV; it needs the internet to receive your content.

Before you start: The player powered on and connected to your TV (see How to connect your player to the TV). For WiFi you'll also need the WiFi antenna from the box, a USB keyboard, and your WiFi network's password.

A wired connection is the most reliable, and there's nothing to set up on screen:

  1. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into your modem or router.
  2. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the back of the media player. There is only one Ethernet slot on the media player.

That's it — no further setup is needed.

Option 2 — WiFi

Have the correct WiFi password ready before you start.

  1. Screw the secondary antenna onto the antenna port on the back of the media player.
  2. Plug a wired or wireless USB keyboard into a USB slot on the back of the player — make sure the keyboard is turned on.
  3. Wait until the landing page appears on the TV screen.
  4. Press the W key. Another page pops up.
  5. If you don't have a mouse attached, use the TAB key to move down a line.
  6. Press ENTER to drop down the available wireless signals, and select your network.
  7. Enter the password, TAB to CONNECT, and press enter.
  8. A prompt appears when connected — it may take up to 90 seconds for the internet to connect.
  9. Once connected, press ESC to leave the WiFi page.

Set up is now complete — to see content on the screen, assign a campaign to that player in the online app (see How to put a campaign on your screen).

Tips & good to know

  • The player gets its network settings automatically. If your network requires manually assigned IP addresses, contact your IT team or Screenfluence support.
  • On restricted business networks, your IT team may need to whitelist Screenfluence's services — point them to our Network Requirements article.
  • Once online, the player largely takes care of itself — if the internet drops, it keeps playing and re-syncs when the connection returns (see What happens if your player goes offline).

Troubleshooting

  • The player won't connect over WiFi: double-check the password, and make sure the antenna is screwed on snugly. If the signal is weak where the player sits, try Ethernet.
  • Connected, but the screen shows no content: that's normal on a new player — content appears once a campaign is assigned to it in the app.
